Research

Before a product makes a claim, we test it. Our research asks one question: how accurately can framing be measured from a scan?

How we test

  1. Synthetic houses. We build full houses on the computer with known leans, so every answer can be checked.
  2. Clutter. We add sheathing, plates, trusses and noise until the finders still work in a messy, real-looking scan.
  3. Real studs. We scan real studs whose lean is measured with a digital level, and put them into the houses.
  4. Real houses. Next, whole framed houses on site.

Where we are

On synthetic houses the method finds every stud and measures lean to about a hundredth of a degree. With real studs, every stud is still found and leaning studs are still caught, but the real surface of a stud adds a few tenths of a degree, so we are improving the scans and the method before making the finish-plumb claim.
